CMDB and ITIL give new view of IT management at boardroom level

~ Best practice IT approach to deliver greater business intelligence in 2007 ~

London, 14th December 2006

Service management specialists, Devoteam Tertio, see 2007 as a key year for connecting 'the boardroom' with IT. In particular the company cites a predicted uptake in the Configuration Management Data Base (CMDB) and IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) in 2007, stating it will give businesses a greater insight and control over their IT assets and processes.

The increased uptake will make technology infrastructures easier to understand and allow IT to deliver services to support the business, according to Alan Greenberg Managing Director at Devoteam Tertio.

Greater visibility into IT assets is also promised by new ITIL guidelines being introduced in the summer of 2007. Agreed experts gathered at Devoteam Tertio's CMDB industry event last month to discuss how tools, such as dashboards, business process discovery and service request catalogues, providing a unified view of IT, are not far off mainstream adoption. Recent research from Gartner cites that a mature service management system in place can link business metrics to technology, improving business processes through real-time infrastructure, which allows business units to focus on planning for the future.

Alan Greenberg, Managing Director at Devoteam Tertio, comments,
"We're going to see an increased take-up in business service management in 2007 allowing companies to put IT in line with business. In 2006, businesses started to deploy ITIL in a significant way and CMDB started to establish itself in IT department's landscapes. Next year, we will see further ITIL uptake confirming its position as the defacto standard framework for IT management together with CMDB becoming a 'must have' to underpin service delivery and support.

"These underlying tools are no longer limited to the realm of the IT department. With increasingly easy to understand business-orientated features, these tools enable companies to gain a greater insight into how technology is supporting their objectives – and, most importantly, how it can be used to enhance business processes."
